Thats what China is doing with the Muslims, and the world is condemning them. Forceful assimilation will never be a fix, and never should be, as it goes against every human right there is. I like to think the western world is smart enough and compassionate enough to not go down that road. The current situation is due to a century of Governments putting bandaids on the problems, thats what needs to change. We don't need better Indigenous we need better Governments.
