I thinkn you missed the point??!! Both cultures existed and thrived long before Western culture arrived.
Both cultures have an affinity with the land that is westerners just don't acknowledge until only recently.
An example is that the Waikato River is now considered a living entity. It is something foreign to our way of thinking, but on another level makes a great deal of sense. We don't live on the land, but are a part of it. I have found it quite fascinating and indeed eye opening looking at things from a different perspective.
