Davisite, holding Australia Day on a day that is just an arbitrary day for instance on Jan. 26 doesn’t make sense to me. I’d prefer it be held on a day that had meaning, such as Jan. 1, and apologies re long w/e.
Continuing with Jan. 26 - a day that has no meaning - makes sense only in that it perpetuates the basic lie about Sngland being a benevolent colonial master. They weren’t, they were the typical animals that were in every colony they touched: genocidss of indigenous folk in America and Australia, the rape of India and the slaughter of millions there, the horror of the partition just a few score years ago.
It wasn’t until 1994 that Australia’s High Court overturned the English idea that no-one lived in Australia before the English scum.
Australia must stop perpetuating the lies of its history.
