Cdchi I am not an expert and I will be honest and say there was some emotion in my comment. The location of the mine is in a pristine area and the water that flows from this area is vital to the farmers and the pristine environment further down the Araluen valley and the Deau Wilderness area.Council has concerns over the damage the mine will do to the water supply and the damage to underground water. There is the issue of noise polution as the mine is planned to operate 24 hours a day close to the very peacefull town of Majors Creek. They all say there could be damage to some endangered species.
Councils in general dont have a lot of money,I doubt they would be taking this to court if tyhey thought they had no chance of winning.Theere decision is not totally popular as many locals see the mine will provide jobs. There are some high profile people doing independant research and the court case may be more serious than the company expects.
