2234119_0001.pngPRESS RELEASENarsaq, Nuuk, Copenhagen and Aarhus, 21 August 2020The destruction of Greenland's environment has begunOn Thursday 13 August, the Minister for Business and Mineral Resources issued a press release, of whichit appeared that the Australian mining company Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S has been granted permission to mineminerals at Killavaat Alannguat / Kringlerne in South Greenland [1]. The exploitation permit is based on seven yearsold consultation material that does not contain the most recently updated report on the assessment ofthe mining project's impact on the environment (EIA). The material also does not include the plans for a chemicalseparation plant with a daily consumption of up to 2000 tons of sulfuric acid, which the authorities want, will bepart of the project.Recently, applications for mining licenses in Greenland have increased significantly. In 2019, there were approx. 70 largerexploration and exploitation permits that together amount to many thousands of square kilometers.Half of it can be found in the southernmost part of Greenlandke dt so "G ø la ds b ødku v",because it includesalmost all of Greenland's agricultural land. Two major mining projects stand out here: The controversialuranium/rare earth mining project in Kuannersuit/Kvanefjeld, which contains the world's second largestreserves of uranium and by far the largest amount of thorium. And the rare earth mining project at KillavaatAlannguat / Kringlerne, which is claimed by the owner, the Australian company Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S, tohave the largest stock of rare earths in the world [2]. Both are high-altitude open pit mines."My authorities have approved an e-project,without it being clarified in advance which mineral depositsthatin which they are and how big they are”,says Mariane Paviasen, frontwoman of the Association URANI NAAMIK /No to uranium in Narsaq.“BothTanbreez and the authorities describe the mineral deposits of KillavaatAlannguat, as huge when marketing the project to international investors, but in connectionwith the assessment of the project's impact on the environment, it is categorized as much less. Tanbreez hasalso admitted that there is uranium in the mine area, but this is not mentioned in the consultation material". [3]Most unusual is that the Norwegian Natural Resources Agency has granted an exploitation permit without first approving oneexploitation or decommissioning plan for the mining project [4]. Tanbreez has been given a deadline of the end of 2022to get the plans approved.“Thereunfortunately, there is no doubt that the postponed exploitation and activity plan relates to the chemicalseparatio sa lay, soy poems e ger e want for Grø la d”,says Hans Pedersen fromRenewable energy."Hey aimwith the separation plant is to increase the tax revenue for the mining projec
