Kidman bought exploration licences from Western Areas in March by handing over 5.2% of its issued shares.
With that holding comes a spot on the board, and nickel explorer Western Areas has picked executive director David Southam as its nominee non-executive director.
Kidman said Southam’s appointment would help the partnership work.
"Mr Southam brings extensive industry experience including significant capital markets expertise, familiarity with the set-up and operation of joint ventures, negotiation of substantial international commodity offtake agreements and has a background covering base and precious metals, bulk materials, contracting and industrial logistics," the company said.
Western Areas maintains the rights to the nickel on the site.
