As you might expect, there's more than one way to go about investing and trading. You need to find the way that works for you.
I am more about fundamental investing rather than charting. If you ever get into that side, I would recommend books by Peter Lynch, and also "The Essential Warren Buffett". Between them they are probably the most successful fund managers of the last 30 years.
I haven't tried the ASX courses but they are often recommended. Ditto for the book "Trading for a Living" that hardball suggested.
