    i don't blame you for not wanting give a portion of your assets to an investment advisor. i don't either. the royal commission has given an insight into what you could be walking into when choosing that path.

    the folks asking you about your goals with these investments are basically asking if you are younger (probably looking more for long term capital growth than income) or older/retired or getting close and looking for more for funds structured to produce income. This will be an important factor in choosing the style of funds that suit. If you answer this question then people here may offer names of funds with good track records for you to research.

    Wilsons are very well regarded with a strong performance history but it's very important that you spend a bit time on google and understand LICs vs managed funds and LIC price premium/discount to NTA.

    The idea of spreading across multiple funds makes sense. Consider diversifying across asset classes i.e. there are funds for aus shares, global shares, real estate, infrastructure and balanced funds that invest in multiple asset classes.
