The Olympic Dam Mine and associated infrastructure is on a Special Mining Lease (SML) which covers and area of 17,788 hectares (177.88 square kilometres). The Exploration Licence which surrounds the entire operation is nearly 1,750 square kilometres and is part of a much larger parcel of ground of several thousand square kilometres held by BHP in SA.
