Then there should be a discussion about the purpose of the ABC, and what is in our interests to fund.

If it is decided it is in Australia's interest to keep certain elements of the ABC independent, then so be it.

But the ABC should be allowed to pursue commercial enterprises related to the other elements of their offering.

If not fully self sufficient in 10 years, the goal should still be at least partially self sufficiency.
