You may be up with this better than I am but I was under the impression the data showed that as a country's standard of living improved, its birth rates declined (better medical facilities etc) and not so many replacements needed for those who die prematurely?
The other thing is that once a country gets up to, or approximates the conditions of the first world it is in a position to itself be involved in the development of the newer technologies such as nuclear fusion, to maintain their standard of living.
If we do not have any plans for mass euthanasia we better be prepared to share some of our resources with those who need them or we may find they are taken from us by force. That is the lesson of history.
