one of the problems of inhabiting river delta areas such as this "dissappered island" is that firstly, most deltas are still in the process of being formed and periodicaly as sediment deposited in the channels leading to the ocean builds up, flooding and erosion will occur that continually alters the delta landscape as nature tries to find a new balance that optimises the water flow into the ocean.There is no guarantee that any of the landscape so formed is going to be a permanent feature even if sea levels don't rise.
Obstructions built as they tend to be when humans occupy such areas, further complicate or multiply the natural processes.
The other problem is that any form of human activity on the sediment which forms such islands will cause the surface to subside due to any sort of traffic over it, even foot traffic, especially as organic material is incorporated into the land surface.
