Hi Mirri,
It is difficult to tell.
Broker codes used to be displayed with orders but are no longer.
There are some posters that subscript to broker data service that provide data on a delayed basis taht indicates which broker houses are doing the buying/selling and the value and volume. Lots of volume through COMSEC indicates retail for example.
Large players will try and hide their orders by using different broker houses and or buyer programs/selling programs see below. Also, there are 2 exchanges ASX and CHIX to make it more difficult.
I can see in real time orders consistently hitting the ask/offer(selling) price and at higher prices than the daily and weekly VWAP. Indicates to me a large buyer or buyers and confirmed by end of day volume. Below trades(last) at the same time but broken up and also trading at the ask price. Today the sellers took out the 0.165 level on the open (large volume) but did not push any lower and the buyers took over from there from there for the rest of the day.
Larger buy (split) order buying above VWAP and taking out the 0.18 level. Not 10 traders buying at the same time at 13:54:14
Smaller orders buying above VWAP
Some algo buying programs.
There are "if touched orders" that might be what triggered the sell off from 0.195 on the CHIX exchange.
There are hidden orders not displayed in market depth.
When a large holder owns 5% or more they have to report to disallowed and for every 1% increase or decrease above 5%.
I look forward to the annual report to see existing and new largest 20 stock holders.
Some institutions/funds and ETFs have to report their holdings during the year, sophisticated players can scrub documents to collect this information and build a data base.
In summary many small orders are bigger players buying or selling. Most retail get charged per trade so can't trade like this, it is not cost effective.
Really just focus on where price closes and the volume that got it to the closing price compared to previous days/weeks.
On balance volume can be insightful on a chart.
Regards
Acclivity
