I was just like you several weeks ago. Now I have 2 accounts with Brokers plus several more coming. Just look around as to which brokers are active in the IPO's you're interested in and get an account with them...its that simple.
Wrt cost- yes, you will pay more than online trading. However, you can always negotiate brokrage with your broker... expect to pay between 0.75-1% plus gst with a minimum of $75-$100 per transaction.
Offcourse this is subject to your relationship with the broker and to the size of your activities.
Don't forget that negotiating too much can leave your broker unhappy or angry- you really don't want that.
