The DRC was formally know as Zaire, they have very rich copper mines near Kolwezi which is close to the Eastern Border of the Congo, in 1974 a 10,000 pylon transmission line was run from a newly built Hydroelectric dam near the mouth of the Congo river to the Kolwezi copper mines, the actual dam itself was less then one 3rd of the rivers width.
