    Areas of Expertise

    * Shaft Sinking, Equipping, Repair and Refurbishment
    The extent of HWCC expertise in shaft sinking covers the entire spectrum of the requirements of mining companies for mine shafts. Shaft depths have varied from the very shallow to the very deep, with support consisting of liner plate, timber concrete and shotcrete. HWCC has overcome very difficult geological situations, including the control of water by grouting. Maintenance and repair of shafts has always been offered as a service to our clients.

    * Mine Development
    Mine design and development has always been a major strength of HWCC. This work has included the excavation and support of declines, inclines, cross-cuts, raises and slope development.

    * Inclined Shaft and Raise Construction

    * Mine Portal and Access Rehabilitation
    In many instances our clients have required that old mines be re-opened for further inspection or development. HWCC has the experience to repair and re-support these openings so that our clients can carry out their examinations in a safe manner.

    * Underground Roof Support and Specialized Underground Construction
    HWCC is not only capable of installing the support necessary in any typical mining situation—such as rock bolts, timber sets and steel sets—but can also construct difficult concrete support systems. In addition, we have the capability to install roof bolts in extremely high places as is sometimes required in dome-type salt mines and other high excavations.

    * Underground Water Control and Grouting
    The sinking of shafts and the excavation of underground openings has often been hampered by the occurrence of heavy water in geological formations. HWCC has successfully overcome such conditions by the use of cement and chemical grouting, and by the installation and use of reliable pumping systems. In addition, HWCC has the ability to construct high-pressure bulkheads to seal off large quantities of water.

    * Mechanical and Electrical Installation
    As part of providing a complete package of mine-related services, HWCC offers the underground installation of mechanical and electrical facilities. Such work can entail but is not limited to the installation of high-volume ore chute mechanisms and the installation of conveyor and other product transportation systems.

    * Mine Sealing and Abandonment
    The last phase in the life of a mine is the final sealing of all the openings. HWCC has the experience necessary to safely install the necessary seals or bulkheads in the shafts and adits of mines that have reached the end of their economic life.
