As a bottom-up, high-conviction stock picker, his fund holds no more than 20 stocks and focuses simply on going where the opportunities are.
For 2025, he’s seeing opportunities in titanium and critical minerals with IperionX, Brazilian Rare Earths and Greatland Gold.“IperionX is our highest conviction idea, and the fund’s largest position,” McDonald says. “The company’s technology enables the production of semi-finished titanium metal products at much lower cost than the current Kroll process, as far less is lost to scrap. It also does this with very low carbon emissions compared the existing process.” He thinks government grants and new contracts will catalyse further growth, and adds that the company is likely to be included in the ASX200 in the next several months, which could also mean it’s picked up by large ETFs.
