I think you're right. The app automatically disconnected from the IQbuds when I put them in their case.
Also noticed shortly after my last post when I walked out of range for an extended period of time the buds told me they had 'Disconnected'. When I walked back in range I heard 'Connected'.
They must be continuously broadcasting a signal when not in the case.
