A valid question, mike, and well responded to by other posters, but certainly not applicable to the WA mining industry and direct support industries where most on AWA get double an award rate.
A relly worked for a firm in one of the mentioned industries, a long term employee on $33/hr. Then they started a recruitment drive and he found himself working alongside newcomers with the same qualifications & experience earning $60+/hr.
When he approached management concerning this inequality, he was given the choice of liking it or lumping it..........he chose the latter, and was replaced by a $60+/hr newcomer, which really stuck in his craw.
No such thing as "fair" in business.........only "business", lol.
But no-one I know here would consider downgrading to an award payment.
