Mozz18, that is right. France put their colonial oar in and made matters worse thinking it was being magnanimous to a minority Abrahamic faith religion, Islam. Iran was secular and had nothing to do with Islam, it now just uses Islam as a manifestation of geopolitical power. islam is commonly abused in this way.
IMHO Rouhani abuses Islam to get what he wants in terms of regional influence and in turn stays in power despite the power vacuum due to all the brainlessness left in Iran.
Also, France is in total chaos, see the EU, the siege, the yellow vests, the no go areas of Paris, Lille and Calais. President Macron can hardly achieve a thing. Everyone wants to leave France and wants the EU to end in part due to how the economically failing France has with Germany run the Union.
Iran is a mess all round and France has contributed to the Iranian mess.
