The popular speculation is that those drones were supposed to confuse the Iron Dome and whatever journeyed air defenses of other nations as a logical explanation. It could also be just that Iran possesses very sophisticated missile systems and with perceived hegemonic military power in the region, Uncle Sam and Zion made assumptions.
Before this attack, some speculation of a very muted Iran response found the road map when Solemani was assassinated. What is of interest is whether IDF bombed the Iranian consulate with full American approval or whether the Americans are this stupid not to realise that Iran WILL have to respond even if it means satisfying a domestic audience or risking a tit-for-tat that can quickly go out of control like what we are witnessing.
