While the US dollar is on the skids, it is hard to see how the global economy can function without a reserve currency. There is just no way for companies to plan ahead if there is not the certainty of prices based on the agreements written in a reserve currency. It would be like a return to the Eastern Bloc trading days when the Russian ruble was the reserve currency for intra-bloc trade and the value was entirely arbitrary.
