Shale plays aren't as economic as they're made out to be and the decline rates are very quick so they require continual fracking etc. I believe a lot of wall street money helped kick off the shale boom in the USA for potential future payback which in the end was uneconomic at $100 /bbl.
Conventional oil and gas is and will be the way forward. Don't put too much credence on the shale plays in respect to economic viability,
