The war drums are beating louder than they were at Custer's Last Stand, and the consequences for Iran are alike to those for Custer. And not only for Iran, but Lebanon and Syria.
Lets accept that either Israel or the US, or even both in union, will attack Iran, regardless of any action on its part. It could surrender all its uranium, but the spin of secret nuclear facilities and plans to make "the bomb" would continue. It would still be attacked.
Israel has been making virtually weekly threats against Lebanon and Syria. In the case of an attack on Iran, it has been thought that these two would respond to aid Iran, and thus Israel would have to lodge a pre-emptive strike simultaneously to prevent a retaliation by Hezbollah. So the three countries would be attacked simultaneously, and the bombing would be vicious. At this point the picture clouds - what next?
The logical solution is then a ground occupation, but the resistance by the survivors would be enormous. Israel has proved that it lacks the stomach for close-quarter ground operations ;Hezbollah would defeat them yet again; the US could not handle a ground war in Iran ; the resistance would be triple that of Iraq & Afghanistan combined.
Thus, I cant see much beyond massive air-raids till nothing exists. If nuclear weapons are used, the radiation will spread afar. Pakistan and Turkey may join the fray. And what of China and Russia? What would be their reaction to seeing their investments in Iran destroyed. Both have stated that a military strike is NOT on the table as far as they are concerned. Would they become involved?
There would be world wide retaliation through acts of terrorism against the aggressors...and keep in mind that Australia is on record as supporting the US against Iran, at least through sanctions. Iraq & Afghanistan would erupt into open slather against the West.
Nostradamus is supposed to have predicted a World War starting in the Middle East. He may well be right.
If it happens, it will be yet another war that they did not think through.
