It is hard to fight when you know the Government is corrupt and give no support/equipment/resupply and nothing will change for the better. Yes while some of the comment here accusing the soldier (of whatever nationality) fleeing as coward or gutless for not staying to fight for your own freedom may be true to some quarter of the Iraqi army, you may want to put yourself into their shoes and consider the possibility of hopelessness of the fighting without support or causes. This is what happen to many Iraqi tribal groups who stood up to ISIS thinking the government will give them support. They got butchered after because of logistic or reliable supplies from the Government. And remember in these environment of brutality and ruthlessness, you are either with them or against them (ISIS or Government). So fleeing with your family maybe the best option.
