Ha ha. Who am I to stand in the way of a good cliché?
With respect to the French, those alliances were merely conveniences. I don't think the Spanish warm all that much to the French. Ah we Europeans, we just love to hate each other (the Irish excluded, of course)!
Before the Brits reigned, when Spain (and to a lesser extent France), ruled in Europe, Spain & France were bitter enemies.
I think Spain's biggest problem with the Brits is more of the "chip on shoulder variety", for as our global empire withered, and Spain started imploding, the Brits went from strength to strength. Unforgivable!
