I think one of smugglers posts was removed, but as to the issue of Hicks I will elaborate.
For the first few years of his incarceration I thought he was probably getting what he deserved but as time passed I came to think that there had to be some limit to how long an Australian citizen could be imprisoned by a foreign country without a trial.
Certainly by the time five years had past many people were saying this has gone on long enough and this was my view also.
Our government had claimed all along that they could do nothing for Hicks, but as people were becoming uneasy over this issue Hicks was suddenly returned home in circumstances that appear to follow intervention from Mr Howard meaning his previous claim was untrue.
I see Mr Rudd has just called for a full investigaion of this matter as he suspects, as do many of us, that the PM has been telling lies.
