The motivation for China blocking our ag products ; timber, fish, wine cotton and now coal, was not based on quality/price. Evidence of that is that it is giving $70 billion of US Ag and energy products priority access to its market. That is code for higher prices.
So, IMO, its not about price, its about politics and once there is an alternative source China will buy it. We have to remember that the CCP no 1 objective is to stay in power & that we have becked the USA to debunk them so price/quality is not the issue; staying in power is.They are self-confessed Socialists with Chinese Characteristics
China's Xi is pretty well there for life but our regime is up for grabs every 3 years and China knows that.
We have polarised ourselves by backing Trump and rejecting China's BRI & Huawei (hi-tech-internet technology features high on China's "Made in China 2025". On the contrary Japan who relies more on the USA for its National Security than we do has managed both the China & the US relationships: -it still has full trade with Chins -it still has full US security support
Our mob cant walk & chew gum!
So unless we address China's 14 grievances we will remain on the outer as a supplier It looks like wheat has been added to the China ban today for the simple reason that Ukraine and and other supplies are available (Keep in mind that China has the biggest buying power in the world because of needed volumes.)
We have made our bed and now we have to sleep in it, IMO.
