    Yes, but a short seller is also 100% committed to buying back that stock eventually at either a profit or loss. They also pay a premium for that privilege and must repay that money.

    As a buyer, you are not under any such obligation to do the same. If you lost money and were forced to sell during a downturn, then you should not invest more than you could afford to lose. And long term investors should expect to see stocks move up or down and not concern themselves with short term moves to begin with.

    You seem to be under the impression the stock market must only go up and if it ever goes down, it is pessimism and short selling is to blame.

    I have made my position clear here and many can attest to that I am long on FMG, and I even disagree with aome shorting at this price, but I must call out this sort of ignorance. Short selling is not as evil as some of you are making it out to be.
