The balance is dynamic and in the developed countries proportion of scrap is increasing and will be increasing for some time yet. China is entering this stage, 175 millions cars, half of them ready for scrap. Old factories, steel works, old appliances of they will go into making new steel and with less pollution. Material technology is changing and favoring less steel. Car technology is changing, less steel more copper aluminum, artificial fibers.
The world is changing with outlook for steel and iron ore being flat at the moment. I posed some questions and nobody is willing or able to answer quantitatively.
