Naked shorting has been banned across most exchanges since GFC, short selling is perfectly legal and there is nothing wrong with it.
Investing/trading you have to be able to play the market both ways otherwise you are severely limiting your options, only going long might be ok during a bull market as we've seen for past 5 years, but leaves you no strategy for when markets turn bearish.
