You don't have to rely on FMG for diversification.
If you think Bendigo Bank is a good company (it might be) whose profits are largely uncorrelated with FMG's (they are), just buy shares in it yourself.
Same as the rest of us manage to own banks, retailers and a raft of other unrelated investments, without them being held through an iron ore miner.
