Really interesting stats here.

Overall IO production increased 19.5mt or 4% to 567mt quarter on quarter.

Discounting Aust and Brazil’s increase of 28.6mt, IO production decreased by 9mt worldwide.

Of the 28.6mt increase in Oz and Brazil, 15mt of that increase was from Brazil’s Northern System ie S11D, which were subject to a wetter than normal wet season in April. This is taken from Vale’s quarterly report.

Brutchu also restarted at the end of June quarter. Quarterly showed bout 3.5mt more production than second qtr.

If you strip out these factors and compare on like for like, then you have neither increase nor decrease in production for the quarter.

Global iron ore production over the July-September quarter grew 19.5 million tonnes or 4% on quarter to 567 million tonnes, with the major contributors, unsurprisingly, being the top producers including Vale, Mysteel’s latest survey on the 62 mining companies in 15 countries showed.

Iron ore miners from Brazil and Australia contributed to 28.6 million tonnes of added supply in the July-September quarter, or 335.4 million tonnes of the total output, among the individual companies, Vale added 22.6 million tonnes on quarter and Rio Tinto’s iron ore production grew 7.6 million tonnes on quarter
