As long as you own the stock on the ex divided date, you get paid the full dividend. Hence there can be a bit surge in buying leading into ex div date. However most of the action happens when the dividend is declared ( 24 aug for fmg) based on where it is lower or higher than market expectations. FMG do have a big $3.5 bill capital investment program for 20-21. They may not give a massive divvy and hold more cash over to fund their business development. We will see!
