I worked in those banks for 17 years and I know what they are going through having been spat out...
Who wants to buy into the mortgages in arrears market??
Popping borrowers on interest only to help them out temporarily is only kicking the inevitable down the street.
I wouldn't touch a bank with a retail bank with a barge pole.
Though bond markets have suddenly woken up and interest rates have begun to slightly tick upwards... part of a bigger trend? I don't think so. Banks makes money when interest rates are higher.
