SMSF is clearly the best structure for long term, retirement focused investments. No capital gains. 15% tax on money going in, and 0% on money coming out when in pension phase. Transition phase is good too as you can start to withdraw. The tax treatment is bloody complicated though so get good advice.
I think you can do margin loans in a SMSF. eg, check out NAB Super Lever. I have never taken one out personally. I expect that they are far more restrictive than the loan taken out by by Karasco58 though.
