Correct, quarterly ETO expires tend to be the largest (especially with index options - never bothered to monitor that on FMG however), but this may start to change as the ASX tends to have monthly options out about 6 months now (beyond that it's quarterlies for a period and beyond that semi-annual for a year or two).
A few years ago, weekly options didn't exist and after the first month or two there were only quarterly options available so I guess many funds and investors may have just become accustomed to using quarterlies, but there isn't really a need to now.
Note a quarterly option is just a monthly option, it's just after 6 months the ASX many only provide SEP, DEC, MAR etc expiry dates.
