True, iron bridge will produce magnetite concentrate. Unfortunately the cost of building a pellet plant in Australia to produce pellets from this quantity of concentrate wouldn't be a viable proposition. Plus the cost of power is too expensive in Australia.
The smart move would be to ship concentrate to Malaysia to produce pellets. That way it would stop FMG being totally reliant on China. Grange's Southdown project originally had planned to do this. The pellet plant in Tasmania was built in the 1960's to supply the Japanese, its very old infrastructure which is being continually modernised.
High grade is the future and iron ore pellets is the highest grade.
