The Article is talking about a 22% rise in the last 6 months and 6 months ago is around the time when FMG cross $20 for the first time.
What you are talking about is the fall from the peak of $26 (which it mentions in the article), this happened 5 months ago so the fall wasn't "before" the 22% rise, its included in it..
So when the article states that the share price has risen 22% in the last 6 months, that is calculated based on being under $20 6 months ago and being worth over $23 now, that fact that it went up to $26 during that time doesn't affect the calculation, it also paid a dividend worth about $2.10 including franking over that time.
