ABSTRACT

As of noon Friday, a total of 13 miners remained trapped in a water leakage accident in the underground iron ore mine in Daixian, North China’s Shanxi province, with the rescue efforts still ongoing, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency the same day. The accident has also obliged other firms mining underground, other than coal miners, to halt their operations so the safety of their mines can be determined.
The accident occurred at a mine operated by the privately-owned Shanxi Daixian Dahongcai Mining Company early on Thursday June 10, when water began flooding the shaft where 16 miners were working.
