Great post. Yes you're right it's just theoretical ground work that tells us that 4,5,6 and 7 standard deviation moves are close to impossible until they happen, and they happen a lot more often than the numbers suggest in reality. So there's another flaw right there.
I've got a copy of Natenberg but never started it. But I did watch a video seminar of his and I could of sworn he mentions at some point delta being used as guide by traders.
I'm not smart enough to understand 100% of the numbers you've posted there, but I'll ask if the figures suggest it's not even remotely useful, why do the market makers and traders on the floor use it so frequently when they're frantically trading huge sums of derivatives? Nearly every options course, mentor, book etc. mentions the practice. Is it a hoax?
