Common enough technique. I've seen it with a lot of stock tip websites and newsletters. It actually even happens at an insto level - well at least I have seen it happen.
There was a pretty famous case that I well known about a unique guy in Sydney with a very questionable past and character. Anyway he took his own life having cheated many and needed up owing millions to the tax office.
Cleverly this individual was able to transfer lots of his wealth to the family before he left the departure lounge.
