Your calculations dont take into consideration the tax implications of jumping on and off the FMG share register especially when you are not onboard for at least a12mth period. You are entitled to invest in any way you see fit. While I was a shareholder of A2M I watched fellow posters do the same as you and regale us about their small wins but never the times that the trades that did not go their way. They were the hares that were busy trading it at every swing while I was the turtle that just sat on his holding, never selling and only adding on big dips. In the end I exited the stock with a over a 1000% gain.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to do nothing. Some people think quiet times and swings in the share price are missed opportunities. Sure you can make some coin on the side but no one can do it with over a 50% consistency over time. I only needed to be out of the stock for 3 days over those six years and I would of given up over 50% of my gains.
I am not giving financial advice or blowing my own trumpet but I doubt there would of been a single retail or institutional shareholder who would of matched my gains by trading that particular growth stock on its way up. Honestly you do the sums, how many successful trades with a so called 20% profit would taking into account CGT would you of needed to match the gains of FMG in the last five years ? For every person that claims they have bettered the returns of LTH like Warren B or Peter Lynch on growth stocks by trading away furiously I will show you someone telling porky pies
Ps if it such a profitable exercise why dont we see Andrew Forrest pay a bunch of Stockbrokers to trade away his personally held and privately held FMG stock like you do. For a company that is 54% held by Institutions why are we not seeing notices of changes in interest in the ASX notice section on a regular basis ?
Lets see where you are 5 years from now in comparison to others who just hold the stock and reinvest their dividends along the way. Not knocking what you do but just pointing out how it plays out for others that have a different investment outlook to yourself. Indeed I invested like you for 20 or so years until changing to buy and hold style for the last 15yo and have never done better since changing format.
