Read Paul Keating's article in the AFR dated 3 September. He doesn't consider China a threat. He said most of the aggression is actually coming from the US which is scared of losing it's dominant position.
General Milley, the US Chief of Staff, even contacted his Chinese counterpart to de-escalate the situation because of the constant anti-China rhetoric under the Trump administration
