Thanks for following up. After rereading your post with less distraction I see that the only part that was concerning to me at least is down the track in relation to the following excerpt:
"It sounds like FFI is being set up as a separate entity which is wholly owned for now by FMG but which one day can be separately floated off"
Floated Off is where I got stuck, though as you said "sounds like" so obviously speculative atm and to that end for now I'll grain of salt it...!
