May 2022 was actually the second equal highest month of steel production ever. May 2021 was the highest ever. April 2021 also had 169.5mt of steel production. Not bad considering covid was playing havoc in China during May

World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 169.5 million tonnes (Mt) in May 2022, a 3.5% decrease compared to May 2021.
