You are absolutely correct, my dear JPGuru, the trend is only in one direction. One however needs to differentiate between the long and the short term - hence the 10 year chart (remember that your fellow downramper, my dear friend Piggy, always reminds us of the importance of looking at IO from the long term perspective and its averages, going back to the 1920's, if memory serves).
An unfortunate trait amongst worry-warts and nervous investors is a tendency to short-term thinking and investing - not you of course as you have no desire to invest, only wishing to give negative opinions so as to save us all from ourselves - it's a trait that often leads one to be right in the short run and wrong over time.
The trajectory of the stock is upward over the longer run, the dividends are uptrending over time and those of us who have failed to heed your warnings are profiting handsomely, laughing all the way to the bank whilst the uninvested and the fearmongerers fail to make any financial progress at all....
