No, nothing about it was tongue in cheek. He is saying that finding a "bullish inverted descending harami cross" on a chart is akin to finding a face in a fluffy cloud or a pattern in tea leaves. Flipping the chart over doesn't make a difference because you can zoom in or out on the various peaks and troughs to find whatever pattern supports your prediction, it's like zooming in to a fractal pattern.
