    It's not always like that. I've read that if a foreign company wants to manufacture in China, the factory negotiators will ask how high the foreign partner wants the quality to be. If you want good quality, they can give it to you, it will simply cost more. But if you instruct your Chinese contractor to make a cheaper one, you can cover it with fancy branding and marketing and consumers will be prepared to pay more for it. It's all about profit margins, and the foreign companies are complicit as well as the Chinese.

    Don't get me wrong, actually making things in Australia is excellent because we SHOULD retain the ability to manufacture basic things like textiles. But business is about margins and marketing. I suspect that Sheridan could make it in China and cover the packaging with pictures of iconic Australian scenes and crap on about how totally Aussie they are, and they could probably sell the same quality product and maybe make a bigger profit.
