what’s interesting is that shipments to China were 0.5m lower in Feb this year but were offset with increases to Indonesia and India (about 0.5m shipped combined in Feb 2024). In Feb 2023 not even 0.1m was shipped to Indonesia and nothing to India.
Dampier shipments were 16% down YOY in Feb.
Rio have had soft shipping numbers recently as well according to mysteel. They only shipped 3.9mt in week ending 17/03 to China, as much as FMG shipped in that week. Rio had only shipped bout 4.5mt in the week prior to that also.

Pilbara Ports delivered a total monthly throughput of 52.7 million tonnes (Mt) for February 2024.
This throughput was a four per cent decrease compared to February 2023.
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 39.5Mt, of which 38.8Mt was iron ore exports. There was minimal variance to total throughput compared to February 2023.
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 157,000 tonnes, an decrease of three per cent compared to February 2023.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 12.3Mt, a 16 per cent decrease from February 2023.
Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 127,000 tonnes, an increase of 46 per cent from February 2023.
Several factors influence the fluctuation of throughput, including changes in market conditions, port maintenance operations and proponent needs.
Total throughput across all ports since 1 July 2023 is 485.2Mt.
